Alex Warren is speaking out after facing backlash for supporting fellow artist Sabrina Carpenter—even as her new single threatens to dethrone his chart-topping hit.
On June 9, Warren posted a Spotify link to Carpenter’s latest single, “Manchild,” on his Instagram Stories. The move, intended as a show of support, drew mixed reactions from fans who were quick to point out that Carpenter’s track is a strong contender to overtake Warren’s “Ordinary” at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
The 24-year-old TikTok star-turned-singer didn’t let the criticism slide. Later that day, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond. “Wait why is everyone so mean on here… music is music,” he wrote. “I’m so blessed to be on the chart and I’m also so happy for all the wins in music. ‘Manchild’ is such a great record and I’m so honored to be mentioned in the same sentence as Sabrina.”
Warren added, “’Ordinary’ means so much to me and so many people and it’s totally ok if it doesn’t to you. I’m just happy to be here J.”
Fans quickly rallied behind him in the comments, urging others to show support instead of spreading negativity. “Can we normalize not harassing artists for no reason at all?! Everyone works hard for their records,” one user wrote. Another added, “Twitter is not a nice place. IGNORE these trolls.”
A third fan commented, “Some of us are mature and normal enough to stream both songs and support u both! Thank you for being respectful and not spreading hate towards Sabrina or any other artist.”
Carpenter, 26, released “Manchild” on June 5 through Island Records, with the official video following a day later. The single quickly gained momentum and now stands as a formidable challenger to “Ordinary,” which has spent two consecutive weeks at the top of the charts.
Warren’s breakout hit, released in February 2025 through Atlantic Records, is the lead single from his debut studio album You’ll Be Alright, Kid. The track was inspired by his wife, Kouvr Annon, whom he married in June 2024. Annon previously posted a heartfelt TikTok showing Warren performing, captioned, “I’m the world’s most proud musician wife.”
Despite the competition, Warren is choosing respect and positivity—proving that even at the top, there’s room to cheer for others.
