Halle Bailey has been granted temporary sole physical and legal custody of her 16-month-old son, Halo, following serious allegations of domestic abuse against her ex-boyfriend, rapper DDG. The court decision, issued on May 13, restricts DDG—born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.—from any contact or visitation with the child pending a June 4 custody hearing.
According to court filings obtained by E! News and Page Six, Bailey petitioned for emergency custody and a restraining order after claiming DDG subjected her to repeated physical and emotional abuse. She cited a specific incident in January where, while placing Halo in DDG's car, he allegedly slammed her face into the steering wheel. "I stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain," she wrote, noting she suffered bruises and a chipped tooth. The documents included photographs supporting her account.
The court order requires DDG to remain at least 100 yards away from both Bailey and their son. He is also prohibited from applying for travel documents on Halo's behalf, a move prompted by concerns of potential child abduction. "I was afraid that the violence would reoccur," Bailey explained in the filing. "I feared the other party would take the child out of the area."
In her testimony, Bailey described a pattern of escalating behavior. She accused DDG of entering her home without permission, sending threatening messages, and even locking her out of her house. "Darryl lacks an understanding of how his actions impact Halo," she wrote. "He is often verbally abusive towards me in front of our son."
Bailey's request for protection follows a public breakup with DDG in October 2024, after two years of dating. While the pair kept much of their relationship private, they made several public appearances together, including at the BET Awards and the Vanity Fair Oscars party. DDG has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations. E! News confirmed that efforts to reach his representatives have gone unanswered.
The court's decision offers Bailey temporary reprieve, but the case underscores broader concerns about domestic violence and child safety in custody disputes. Until the June 4 hearing, the order remains in place, with Bailey seeking permanent full custody. As the legal process unfolds, the safety and well-being of young Halo remain at the heart of the matter. For now, the court has drawn a firm line, pending further investigation into the troubling claims brought forward.
