The couple , Vandersloot, 36, of the Chicago Sky, and her wife Quigley, 38, have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Jana Christine Vandersloot Quigley, born on April 8, People exclusively confirmed.
"We're absolutely over the moon to welcome our daughter into the world," the couple shared with People. Fondly known by fans as "the VanderQuigs," the new parents added, "We've dreamed of this moment for so long , and it's even more amazing than we ever imagined."
To mark the joyous occasion, they also released an intimate photo showing them holding baby Jana. In the picture, the proud moms beam down at their newborn, who is wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a delicate headband adorned with jeweled flowers. They are pictured sitting together at the edge of their bed, basking in the moment.
Vandersloot and Quigley tied the knot in December 2018, following years of keeping their relationship out of the spotlight. Their story began with basketball; they met during the 2012–2013 Euroleague season in Slovakia, where their teams faced off in a five-game championship series. Though Quigley's team, Kosice, defeated Vandersloot's Ruzomberok, fate brought them together during their return trip to the U.S. to play for the Chicago Sky.
In a 2019 Sports Illustrated interview, Vandersloot recalled that first meeting, saying, "I'm not very talkative, especially with strangers... I just don't like small talk, and I never felt that with her."
Though their chemistry was instant, they initially chose to remain friends while playing for the Sky that season. Their romantic relationship began after the season ended in late September. Balancing love and their professional careers wasn't always easy, they spent time on different overseas teams and kept their relationship under wraps but eventually, they came out to their teammates and coaches, and were met with support.
Since then, the two have continued to champion each other's careers and lives. Vandersloot remains an active player with the Sky, while Quigley took a break from the 2023 and 2024 WNBA seasons. Despite her hiatus, Quigley remains a beloved figure in the Chicago basketball community.
Now, with baby Jana in their arms, the couple embarks on a new chapter , one that's sure to be just as meaningful as their journey on the court.
