The club has also been fined 100,000 Saudi Riyals, approximately £20,000, following the incident.
Jota, the former Liverpool forward, died in a car crash at the age of 28 in July last year. The Portugal international had been a close friend of Neves, with the pair having played together at Wolverhampton Wanderers and for the Portuguese national team.
Neves has continued to honor Jota since his death. He wears the number 21 shirt for Portugal in his memory and has a tattoo on his calf showing the two players embracing. Neves was also among the pallbearers at Jota's funeral.
During Al-Hilal's match against Al-Taawoun on Saturday, supporters repeatedly shouted Jota's name at Neves. The comments came during a match in which Al-Hilal recorded a 6-0 victory.
Following the game, Neves expressed his disappointment with the behavior. Speaking to reporters, he said he hoped the supporters would reflect on their actions, particularly given the circumstances surrounding Jota's death.
The incident also drew criticism from Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr and was a Portugal teammate of Jota. Ronaldo called for the supporters responsible for the chants to receive lifetime bans.
Al-Taawoun condemned the behavior and distanced the club from the actions of those involved.
In a statement, the club said the conduct was unacceptable and did not represent Al-Taawoun, its supporters or the values associated with the club.
The club also stressed that sporting rivalry should not be used as an excuse for behavior that insults, humiliates or bullies others.
The disciplinary action means Al-Taawoun will have to play two upcoming home league fixtures without supporters in the stadium. The fine will also add to the consequences facing the club following the incident.
The punishment comes as Saudi football continues to attract growing international attention, with several high-profile players moving to the league in recent years. Neves joined Al-Hilal in 2023 after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers and has since become an established figure in the Saudi Pro League.
