Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer after his departure from Bournemouth, with the move set to be officially registered on July 1 pending international clearance.
The 29-year-old Argentina international leaves the south coast club after rejecting three contract offers earlier in the season, choosing instead to pursue a new challenge in North London. Senesi, who has been capped three times by Argentina, was not included in the national team squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Speaking after confirming his move, Senesi described the transfer as a very special feeling and said he was excited to join the Europa League winners. He added that from the first conversation, Tottenham showed him how much they wanted him and made him feel part of their plans for the future.
He said he is looking forward to contributing on the pitch, working hard for the supporters, and helping the club return to the level it belongs. Senesi also stated his ambition to win trophies with Tottenham and promised to give everything to achieve success.
The former San Lorenzo and Feyenoord defender spent four years at Bournemouth, where he established himself as a key player in defence. His move makes him Tottenham's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Andy Robertson, who also joined on a free transfer from Liverpool.
Tottenham have also secured a new one year contract extension for Welsh defender Ben Davies, 33, who will remain at the club for another season.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi praised Senesi's arrival, saying the defender will strengthen the team defensively after consecutive 17th place finishes in the Premier League. He highlighted Senesi's comfort in possession based systems, his strong reading of the game, and his personality as key attributes that will help him adapt quickly.
De Zerbi also noted the player's determination to improve and said he is looking forward to working with him and seeing the impact he will make.
Tottenham confirmed that midfielder Yves Bissouma, 29, will leave the club this summer after making 90 Premier League appearances since joining from Brighton in a reported £30 million deal in 2022.
Tottenham will continue their summer rebuild as they prepare for the new Premier League season under growing expectations from supporters and management alike this season moving forward.
