Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal will bring his remarkable association with the club to a close at the end of the season, ending a relationship that has spanned 23 years across two spells at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 34-year-old right back will depart when his contract expires at the end of June. Throughout his time with the Spanish giants, Carvajal established himself as one of the club's most decorated and influential players, making 450 appearances and scoring 14 goals.
Born in Madrid, Carvajal first joined Real Madrid's academy in 2002 as a young prospect. After progressing through the club's youth system, he spent a season with Bayer Leverkusen before Real Madrid exercised a buy-back clause to bring him back in 2013. That decision marked the beginning of a hugely successful era for both player and club.
During his career with Los Blancos, Carvajal helped deliver an extraordinary collection of silverware. He lifted six Champions League titles and became one of only five players to achieve that milestone. He also stands out as the only player to have started in all six of those victorious finals.
His domestic and international success further strengthened his reputation. Carvajal won four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups and four Spanish Super Cups. On the international stage, he became a regular for Spain after making his debut in 2014, earning 51 appearances and helping his country win the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.
Individually, he also collected significant recognition. He was selected in the FIFPro World XI in 2024, earned a place in FIFA's Men's World XI and was named player of the match in the 2024 Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund after scoring the opening goal.
Recent years have been more difficult because of injury setbacks. A serious knee injury in October 2024, followed by another major issue the following year, significantly limited his playing time. The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold also accelerated the transition at right back.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez described Carvajal as a symbol of the club and said his home would always remain at Madrid. The club will honor him during its final league match of the season against Athletic Club.
