Guehi, who is 25 and a regular in the England national team, has attracted interest from several leading European clubs. His contract with Crystal Palace expires in the summer, a situation that has heightened transfer speculation around him for months. He also came close to leaving Palace last summer, when a proposed move to Liverpool collapsed late on deadline day despite the defender already undergoing part of his medical.
While personal terms with City have not yet been formally agreed, both sides expect no complications in finalising them. The centre‑back is anticipated to sign a long‑term deal once all details are completed. City have already made one major signing this month, having brought in forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5 million as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.
When asked about City's pursuit of Guehi during his Friday press conference, manager Pep Guardiola declined to discuss the matter and simply stated that he had "nothing to say." At Crystal Palace, however, manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that the negotiations were nearing conclusion. Glasner also revealed that Guehi would not be included in the squad for Saturday's Premier League match against Sunderland.
Glasner had acknowledged earlier in January that Palace would be prepared to sell their captain if the club's valuation was met. Guehi has been an influential figure for the Eagles, leading them to last season's FA Cup triumph over Manchester City and guiding them to a Community Shield victory against Liverpool at the start of the current campaign.
In a separate development, Glasner announced that he will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season when his contract expires. He explained that his decision is motivated by a desire for a new challenge and is unrelated to Guehi's impending departure.
