Max Verstappen was back to his unstoppable best at the United States Grand Prix, taking a commanding win at the Circuit of The Americas and shaking up the Formula 1 title fight. After winning the sprint on Saturday, the Red Bull driver led from start to finish on Sunday to cut Oscar Piastri's championship lead down to 40 points with five races left.

Lando Norris brought home second for McLaren after a tough fight with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who finished third. Piastri could only manage fifth, and his once comfortable lead is starting to look a lot less secure — just 14 points now separate the two McLaren teammates.

Verstappen made the perfect getaway and held firm through an early virtual safety car triggered by a crash between Carlos Sainz and Kimi Antonelli. From there, he controlled the pace and never looked threatened. "It was an unbelievable weekend for us," he said after the race. "Managing the tires wasn't easy, but we kept the lead and finished it strong."

Leclerc rolled the dice by starting on soft tires, which gave him extra grip off the line to jump Norris at Turn 1. It worked — at least for a while. He held second place through most of the race but began to struggle as his tires wore out. "It was a gamble," Leclerc admitted. "But it helped me get track position early on."

Norris, on the other hand, stayed patient. He kept up the pressure, tried a few times to get past, and finally pulled off a clean move at Turn 12 with just a few laps left. "It took long enough," Norris said with a grin. "Charles defended hard, but I knew if I waited for the right moment, it would come."

Lewis Hamilton had a quiet but solid drive to fourth, while Piastri's race never really came alive. After a mix of podiums and DNFs in recent rounds, his pace in Austin wasn't enough to keep Verstappen behind in the standings.

With Verstappen closing in and Norris right on his teammate's heels, the title fight is heating up fast. McLaren's strong start to the season now faces a serious challenge — and Red Bull looks ready to make things very uncomfortable in the final stretch.
