George Russell has voiced confidence in retaining his seat at Mercedes amid speculation surrounding the team's interest in signing reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Despite ongoing rumours and contract uncertainties, Russell remains calm and optimistic about his future with the Silver Arrows.

Speaking to SkySports ahead of the British Grand Prix, Russell addressed the speculation, stating: "Every team has two seats available and it's normal that every team is considering what the future holds... I want to continue with Mercedes into the future." He emphasized his trust in Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, saying, "Toto has never let me down. He's always given me his word... For me, it's nothing to worry about because I don't think I'll be going anywhere."

Russell acknowledged that interest from other teams exists but reaffirmed his loyalty to Mercedes. "There hasn't been a lack of interest, let's say. But I've been focused on my side. I am loyal to Mercedes," he stated, noting that any decisions would be made through Mercedes since they also serve as his management.

Kimi Antonelli, the 18-year-old driver fast-tracked to Mercedes after Lewis Hamilton's departure, is also part of the conversation. While his future beyond 2025 remains uncertain, he expressed contentment with his current position: "I got this opportunity from Mercedes and there's no talks with anyone else... I know the team has a lot of trust in me, so I'm not really worried."

Meanwhile, Verstappen remains under contract with Red Bull until 2028 but has been linked to Mercedes, with Wolff confirming "conversations" about potentially bringing him onboard. However, the Dutchman downplayed the rumours, stating: "I'm going to say no, because if I say yes, people will make up headlines again... I always said to the team it would be ideal... to finish off my career in Formula 1 with one team."

Despite Red Bull's recent performance dip and questions about their 2026 engine development, Verstappen remains focused: "We are not where we want to be... but at the same time, next year a lot can change again. Even if you try to chase the fastest car now, it might not be the fastest car next year."

As Mercedes navigates upcoming regulation changes and potential driver shifts, Russell's stance is clear: "It'll happen when the time is right... I feel I'm performing better than ever."
