US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell cautioned Tuesday that risks to employment have increased in recent months, citing a significant deceleration in job creation within the world's leading economy. Addressing a conference in Philadelphia, Powell noted that "while the unemployment rate remained low through August, payroll gains have slowed sharply, likely in part due to a decline in labor force growth due to lower immigration and labor force participation.”

A federal grand jury has returned a criminal indictment against New York Attorney General Letitia James, charging her with violations of federal banking laws. The indictment, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria, alleges that James committed bank fraud and made false statements to a financial institution in connection with a mortgage loan application for a residence in Norfolk, Virginia, according to court documents. James previously led a high-profile civil fraud investigation against Donald Trump.
