Prince Albert of Monaco has expressed his support for communities affected by the devastating wildfires sweeping across parts of Europe, while also urging stronger action to address the environmental challenges linked to climate change.
As large fires continue to burn across France, Spain, and parts of the United Kingdom, Prince Albert issued a statement on social media on behalf of himself and Princess Charlene. Writing in French, the royal extended his sympathies to families forced to evacuate their homes and to communities facing the destruction caused by the blazes.
He said their thoughts were with everyone enduring the crisis and praised the courage of firefighters, emergency responders, and volunteers who continue working in dangerous conditions to protect lives, homes, and natural landscapes.
The wildfires have followed an intense summer of extreme heat across Europe, with temperatures reaching as high as 104 degrees Fahrenheit in some regions. Authorities have evacuated more than 300,000 people as fires spread near Madrid in Spain and around the Bordeaux region in France. While the United Kingdom has experienced smaller wildfires, officials declared a major incident in Scotland after a significant blaze broke out in the Cairngorms.
Prince Albert also highlighted the environmental impact of the fires, warning that they threaten valuable ecosystems and fragile biodiversity. He said the increasing frequency and intensity of such disasters are partly linked to major disruptions affecting the global climate.
Calling for collective action, the Monaco royal stressed that protecting the environment is an urgent responsibility requiring cooperation and decisive leadership. He concluded his message by reaffirming his solidarity with everyone affected by the fires.
His comments closely echoed a recent statement by Prince William, who also expressed support for wildfire victims while emphasizing the need for stronger environmental protection. The Prince of Wales thanked firefighters, emergency personnel, and volunteers for their efforts, describing the fires as a reminder of the growing challenges posed by an increasingly extreme climate.
Prince Albert and Prince William have frequently shared similar views on environmental conservation. In June 2025, the Prince of Wales traveled to Monaco to attend the Blue Economy and Finance Forum alongside Prince Albert, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other international leaders.
During the event, Prince William highlighted the goals of the Earthshot Prize, his global environmental initiative aimed at identifying and supporting innovative solutions to repair the planet by 2030. He called for urgent investment and collaboration to protect oceans, restore ecosystems, create sustainable jobs, and strengthen communities.
William acknowledged the scale of the environmental crisis but expressed confidence that determination, innovation, and collective action can help reverse current trends. Both royals continue to use their platforms to encourage governments, organizations, and individuals to work together in tackling climate change and protecting the natural world for future generations.
