Mark Consuelos is finally dealing with a toe problem he has been putting off for about a year.
The "Live with Kelly and Mark" co-host revealed on Friday, Sept. 25, that he was heading straight to surgery after the show to treat what he described as a painful arthritic condition in his toe.
"Today's the day," Consuelos told his wife Kelly Ripa at the beginning of the episode. "I've been putting off this toe surgery for about a year."
Ripa confirmed she would be going with her husband, but made it clear she had her own reason for wanting to be there.
"I'm not resisting the opportunity to video capture you coming out of your propofol haze," she joked.
The couple then reminisced about Consuelos' previous foot surgery, with Ripa revealing, "I have you on video from your last foot surgery."
Consuelos said he was already feeling "a little loopy" because he had not eaten since the previous day. Ripa was surprised by the instructions, saying she had "never heard of fasting for 24 hours before a surgery."
"It's dumb. I just want to eat. I could be convinced to eat at any moment," Consuelos joked.
As they discussed his recovery, Consuelos read out a list of things loved ones can do to help someone after surgery. That included taking over some responsibilities at home, walking their dog Lena and simply being "present during the recovery."
He also had a message for Ripa: "That means put your phone down. Take your AirPods out of your ears."
Ripa had her own ideas for keeping her husband occupied while he recovers, suggesting reading, journaling, Netflix and crafting.
"I could teach you to knit if you want," she offered.
"I'm going to bedazzle my foot," Consuelos replied.
The 55-year-old actor later clarified that the surgery was not simply an excuse to improve his golf game, as Ripa jokingly suggested.
"No, it's arthritic. It's bad. I need help. It hurts," he said.
Consuelos has previously linked his toe problems to years of playing soccer. In a 2024 episode of "Live," he said he developed turf toe and described the condition as arthritic. He had already undergone surgery on his left foot and joked at the time that another procedure could eventually become a storyline on the show.
