A deadly missile strike, blamed on Russia, rocked Ukraine's capital on Monday, killing a child, injuring at least 88 people, and flattening parts of a children's hospital. The attack, one of the deadliest on Kyiv in months, left bloodied patients fleeing, debris scattered across playgrounds, and families desperately searching for survivors beneath the rubble.

Officials said more than 40 missiles were launched across the country, with several hitting Kyiv directly. Among the worst-hit sites was the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, where nurses and doctors were forced to carry young patients to safety, some still attached to IV drips, others screaming for their parents.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, calling it "pure evil," and said Russia must be held accountable for what he called a deliberate assault on children. International leaders echoed his outrage, with the European Union, the United Nations, and the United States calling for justice, urging stronger sanctions, and demanding immediate humanitarian support.

Footage from the scene showed rescue workers digging through shattered glass, concrete, and mangled beds. Parents were seen sobbing outside the hospital gates, some still clutching medical records, others searching for answers, and most simply holding onto hope.

Russia denied targeting the hospital, claiming the damage was caused by Ukrainian air defense systems. But investigators recovered missile fragments at the site, and experts from both Ukraine and NATO say the evidence strongly points to a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.

As of Tuesday, the death toll was expected to rise. Emergency services continued to comb through the rubble, while Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, described the strike as a "monstrous act," one that will not be forgotten, and one that must not go unpunished.
