President Donald Trump has still not commented on the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney, but his own vice president, JD Vance, has finally addressed the news.

Vance spoke about Cheney on the day of the funeral while attending a Breitbart event on November 20. Reports indicated that both he and Trump were not invited to the service. During his remarks, Vance acknowledged the political tensions that existed, saying there were clear disagreements, but he recognized Cheney as someone who served his country and offered condolences to the family during their period of mourning.

Cheney, who served as the 46th vice president under President George W. Bush, died on November 3 at the age of 84. Nearly three weeks after his passing, Trump has not made any public comment. The day after Cheney's death, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the president was aware of the news and noted that flags had been lowered to half staff in accordance with statutory requirements.

The Cheney family announced his death in a statement on November 4, explaining that he died from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. The family expressed deep gratitude for his life and described him as a man of courage, honor, kindness, and devotion to both his loved ones and his country. His wife Lynne and daughters Liz and Mary were with him when he passed.

Trump's strained relationship with the Cheney family has been widely documented, particularly after Liz Cheney joined the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on January 6. Her decision to support impeachment efforts and denounce Trump's actions led to her being removed from Republican leadership in 2021 and eventually losing her seat in Congress.

Throughout this period, her father strongly supported her. Both were the only Republicans who attended a moment of silence for fallen Capitol Police officers on the first anniversary of the riots. Cheney later endorsed Liz's reelection campaign and spoke openly about his view that Trump posed a serious threat to the nation.

In a video, he described Trump as someone willing to use lies and violence to cling to power. Liz has often credited her father's unwavering support with giving her strength through challenging political moments. She shared that on the day of the Capitol riot, he warned her that Trump had targeted her in his speech and was concerned for her safety as she prepared to speak on the House floor.
