In an attack that claimed the life of Bobbie Mitchell's husband, Fred Mitchell, Bobbie Mitchell, a current Denton County commissioner in Lewisville, was hospitalized after allegedly being stabbed by her grandson Mitchell Reinacher.

According to a press release from the Lewisville Police Department, police were called to an attack at approximately 4 a.m. on April 21. When they arrived, they discovered Bobbie and Fred with stab wounds.

According to authorities, Fred was declared dead after he and Bobbie were taken to a nearby hospital. Additionally, when police came, they found that the Mitchells' 23-year-old grandson, whom they had named as a suspect, was still present. He was apprehended without incident, they continued, and he is being charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and homicide.

"As LPD crime scene investigators and detectives continue to process evidence and work to determine the circumstances that led to the attack, the crime scene remains active," police stated.

Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore provided an update, saying that Bobbie had surgery and is "expected to fully recover." "Please give the family space and time to heal," he continued.

Following her tenure as Lewisville's first Black mayor, which began in 1993, Bobbie went to the Denton County Commission in 2000. She and Fred have two children, Darin Mitchell and Mitchell's mother, Rhonda Reinacher, who has nine grandkids.

In a separate statement that CBS News was able to receive, Mayor Gilmore stated, "The city is holding our commissioner and her family close to our hearts." "We appreciate our police, fire, and hospital personnel's prompt action and their excellent care of Commissioner Mitchell. If Bobbie has ever prayed over you at an event, please encourage her and the family, as she has lifted our community.”

"This news will have a profound impact on our community," Rachel Roberts, a public relations officer for the Lewisville Police Department, told the publication.
