Kristen Bell, known for her wit and humor, found herself in the middle of a storm this week after posting what many called a "tone-deaf" anniversary message to her husband, Dax Shepard. In an Instagram post celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary, the actress shared a sweet photo of the couple embracing, paired with a caption that raised eyebrows. Bell quoted Shepard as once saying, "I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I'm heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would," followed by a heart emoji. While some fans understood the dark humor that defines the couple's relationship, others accused her of making light of domestic violence. Bell eventually limited the comments on the post, but not before the controversy gained traction online.

The timing of the post couldn't have been more sensitive, coming just as her hit Netflix series Nobody Wants This returned for its second season. The actress was scheduled to appear on NBC's Today alongside co-star Justine Lupe, but was notably absent that morning. However, she later joined Lupe and fellow cast members Adam Brody, Jackie Tohn, and Timothy Simons for a screening and panel event at New York's 92nd Street Y. Bell appeared cheerful, interacting with fans and signing autographs, even joking about her pregnancy glow in old photos. "I was pregnant here," she said while signing one. "You know I can always tell which pictures I was pregnant in it's the shape of my face, friend."

Bell, who shares two daughters, Lincoln and Delta, with Shepard, has long been open about the ups and downs of marriage. The couple is known for their candidness about therapy, parenting, and maintaining a sense of humor through life's challenges. Still, her latest attempt at playful irony sparked a conversation about where humor ends and sensitivity begins.

Despite the backlash, Bell has not addressed the controversy publicly, and fans continue to debate whether her post was an innocent joke or a misjudged moment in an otherwise celebrated relationship.
