Patrick Mahomes did not hide his frustration after the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a crushing 20-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, delivering a blunt assessment of a performance that exposed serious problems on both sides of the offense.

The loss ended Kansas City's unbeaten start to the 2026 NFL season and left Mahomes searching for answers after one of the most difficult outings of his career.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP completed 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards, threw an interception and failed to record a touchdown as Seattle's defense controlled the contest.

Speaking after the game, Mahomes was particularly disappointed with the team's lack of preparation and execution.

The quarterback acknowledged that the Chiefs had been outplayed and challenged his teammates to show a different response when they return to the field.

"This sucks. You don't want to perform like this in primetime. You've got to feel it on the plane ride home... You've got to see your mistakes... and try to play better... and find a way to win next week," he said.

His words reflected the scale of the disappointment in Kansas City. The Chiefs entered the matchup with a 5-0 record, but they were unable to find an answer to Seattle's defensive pressure or generate the explosive offensive plays that have frequently defined Mahomes' career.

The quarterback also accepted that the team had not done enough to meet the challenge presented by the Seahawks.

"If you don't come ready to play, you can get your tail kicked in this league, we have a young team, it'll be how we respond from this," Mahomes said.

Kansas City now has to demonstrate that the setback was an isolated failure rather than the beginning of a wider problem.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs face a major test after Seattle defeat

The statistics highlighted just how unusual the performance was for a team led by Mahomes. Kansas City managed only three points and 213 total yards, while the offense failed to reach the red zone even once.

According to ESPN Insights, the three-point total matched the fewest the Chiefs have scored in any of the 153 games Mahomes has started, including the playoffs. The team's yardage total was also its second-lowest across those appearances.

Seattle's defensive pressure played a major role. Mahomes was under pressure on 19 of 36 dropbacks, making it difficult for him to establish a rhythm or give his receivers enough time to get open.

His interception added to Kansas City's difficulties, and the team never found the end zone.
