Earlier this year, Jeff Bezos quietly sold off some valuable real estate. The Amazon founder sold his more than 9,400-square-foot mansion near Seattle more than a year after announcing he would be moving to Miami to live with his now-wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos. Several sources claim that the house was bought for $63 million in March.
Six years after Bezos bought the 3.2-acre waterfront home in Lake Washington for $37.5 million following his divorce from MacKenzie Scott, Fortune also reported on the sale on October 20.
According to Washington property records, the one-story mansion has three bedrooms, six bathrooms, a dock for boats and seaplanes, and more than 300 feet of waterfront.
The entrepreneur, who established Amazon in the Seattle region, considered how much Miami has meant to him when he announced his intention to relocate there in 2023.
"Seattle has been my home since 1994, when I started Amazon out of my garage," the 61-year-old wrote as the caption for an Instagram photo from November 2023 that included a video of him from his early years. "That’s my dad behind the camera in this video, touring Amazon's first 'office.'"
"My parents have always been my biggest supporters," he continued. "They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82—GO Panthers!). I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami."
Bezos, who wed Lauren in June after six years of courtship, also explained the pragmatic aspects of the relocation.
The father of four clarified, "Blue Origin's operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral," referring to his aerospace company that maintains facilities there. "For all that, I’m planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest."
"I've lived in Seattle longer than I've lived anywhere else, and I have a ton of incredible memories here," he added. Even though the move is exciting, I'm feeling strong about it. You will always hold a special place in my heart, Seattle.
