Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have filed a defamation lawsuit against Ray J, accusing the singer of spreading false and damaging claims that the two are under federal investigation for racketeering. The suit, first obtained by TMZ, marks a significant escalation in the long-standing tensions between Ray J and the Kardashian-Jenner family.
According to the court documents, the legal action stems from comments Ray J made during a TMZ Tubi documentary about Sean “Diddy” Combs and later in a livestream on September 24. In the documentary, he suggested that racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be believable. During the livestream, Ray J went further, claiming “the feds is coming” for Kim and Kris and warning that he was about to “drop” a federal RICO case against them. He compared the alleged situation to Diddy’s ongoing federal case, claiming it could be “worse than Diddy.”
Kardashian and Jenner strongly deny any such investigation exists. Their lawsuit states that neither has ever been the subject of a federal racketeering probe and that no law enforcement agency has initiated criminal or investigative activity against them. The filing stresses that Ray J’s remarks were not presented as opinion but rather as factual assertions, which they argue meets the legal threshold for defamation made with “actual malice.”
The complaint also accuses Ray J of attempting to exploit his past relationship with Kardashian for personal gain and publicity. The lawsuit claims his repeated references to criminal allegations are part of a broader campaign to tarnish their reputations, which they say has caused emotional distress, reputational harm and professional damage.
Kardashian and Jenner are seeking both compensatory and punitive damages. While the lawsuit does not specify a dollar figure, it emphasizes that Ray J’s accusations could have long-lasting effects on their public and business ventures. Their attorney, Alex Spiro, told TMZ, “Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian have never brought a defamation claim before … but this false and serious allegation left no choice.”
