Is football ever not on Tom Brady's mind? The seven-time Super Bowl champion, 48, is teaching his 15-year-old son Benjamin Rein how to drive, and naturally, he is doing so with football terminology.

To his point, Brady, who prides himself on never getting a ticket in his 32 years of driving, tells People that he is a pretty good driver, specifically in a style that is comparable to how he played football. "I drive very defensively, kind of like I was on the football field," the retired athlete tells People exclusively while speaking about his ongoing partnership with Hertz Car Sales. "I always try to know where the problems are at, and I kind of teach him how to drive like that too," he continued about what he tells his son, who turns 16 on Dec. 8. "Because you never know out there on the road."

In addition to driving defensively, the future Hall of Fame quarterback, who played for the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2019 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2020 to 2022 until announcing his retirement in February 2023, emphasizes how to be adaptive and alert. "People can make a lot of mistakes and you got to be willing to adapt," he says, stressing, "And even if you have a green light and someone runs their red light, you're still the one getting hit, so you've got to be careful when you're on the road."

Ultimately, the dad of three, who shares son Ben and daughter Vivian Lake, 12, with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and his eldest son John "Jack" Edward Thomas, 18, with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, praises his sons for their driving abilities. "Both my kids ... My oldest is a very good driver," he said of Jack before adding of Ben, "And then my middle son is getting his here shortly, but he's very good."

Brady's reassuring advice is similar to how Hertz Car Sales wants its customers to feel with the launch of the brand's new digital car-buying platform that has now expanded to a full-service e-commerce platform, he says. That is why the team up was such a natural fit for Brady, who adds that it is also very exciting to take part in the campaign as its star. "I'm happy I get to work with Hertz now for us to all double down on Hertz car sales," he says. "We had a great campaign around it and I want all the customers to feel really confident with what they're doing, and this gives."
