Ed Sheeran learned about Taylor Swift's engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce the same way millions of fans did, through Instagram.

During a pre-show interview with Andy Cohen before his SiriusXM Small Stage Series concert in New York City on Wednesday, Sheeran, 34, revealed he wasn't given any advance notice about his longtime friend's big news. "How did you find out about the engagement?" Cohen, 57, asked.

"Instagram," Sheeran replied bluntly, drawing surprise from Cohen, who pressed, "Like everyone else? You didn't even get a DM in advance?" Sheeran simply confirmed, "No."

The British singer also admitted he hasn't heard Swift's upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, nor has he received a save-the-date for the wedding.

Swift, 35, and Kelce, also 35, announced their engagement in late August with a romantic Instagram post showing the Kansas City Chiefs player proposing in a flower-filled garden. The post was captioned, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨," a nod to their professions before fame.

The couple, who began dating in summer 2023, reportedly plan to wed "next summer in Rhode Island." Sources told Page Six the ceremony will be "private and casual," with a focus on close friends and family rather than a star-studded guest list.

While Sheeran didn't make the inner circle for early updates, his friendship with Swift spans more than a decade. The two met in 2012 while collaborating on the hit song "Everything Has Changed" and toured together the following year during Swift's Red tour.

Reflecting on that period, Sheeran shared on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast earlier this year, "We used to fly to and from the gigs together and do all sorts of stuff. I literally spent almost every single day with her for about six months."

Though they no longer see each other as often, Sheeran said they typically meet "about four times a year" for "proper sit-down, six-hour catch-ups."

Despite the lack of a heads-up, Sheeran's bond with Swift remains strong , even if, like everyone else, he had to double-tap her engagement announcement to find out.
