Matthew McConaughey has revealed an unusual tip that he believes has kept his 13-year marriage to Camila Alves alive and thriving, downsizing their bed.

The Oscar-winning actor, 55, opened up about his marriage in his new book Poems & Prayers, which hit shelves this month. McConaughey and Alves, who tied the knot in 2012, share three children: Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12.

In the book, he writes, "The best thing you can do for your marriage, one way to surely get ahead, is get rid of that king-size mattress and sleep in a queen-size bed."

Speaking with Fox News Digital, McConaughey explained how the revelation came to him one morning. "I wake up and Camila's like a football field away, man," he joked. "You want to snuggle up at night, but it's like, 'Come about 12 feet, and I'll come 12 feet.'"

The Interstellar star said he realized the distance was symbolic as well as physical. "This damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b----," he recalled. The couple switched to a queen-size bed, and McConaughey insists it made a world of difference: "Now we're shoulder to shoulder. I'm telling you, it's good for your marriage."

Beyond bedroom arrangements, McConaughey stressed the importance of prioritizing his relationship despite the demands of parenting. "You've got kids, and you're focused on being good parents, but you've also got to make time to be a couple," he said. "One of the best examples you can give your kids is how you treat their mother, and how she treats you."

The couple first met in 2006 at a nightclub in Los Angeles. McConaughey recalled being instantly captivated: "She floated across the room. I didn't say, 'Who is that?' I said, 'What is that?'"

After a Christmas Day proposal in 2011, they married the following summer. McConaughey says his love for Alves has never wavered. "Since that evening, I've never wanted to spend time with any other woman," he told People.

His latest book blends humor, faith, and reflection, offering readers a glimpse into the philosophies that guide his family and career, including the surprising role a queen-size bed plays in lasting love.
