Sofía Vergara had a very different Emmy night than she expected. The Modern Family star, 53, was forced to skip the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 14, after suffering an intense and unexpected eye allergy just moments before leaving for the event.

Vergara shared the shocking news with fans on Instagram, posting a close-up photo of her visibly swollen left eye. "Didn't make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩," she captioned the photo. "Craziest eye allergy right before getting in the car! Sorry I had to cancel!"

Her post also included a short video of her rinsing her eye in a hospital sink and another clip of her lying in a hospital bed as she received treatment.

Vergara had been scheduled to present at this year's Emmys alongside a star-studded lineup including Angela Bassett, Tina Fey, Kristen Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

While Vergara was absent, the evening went on with comedian Nate Bargatze hosting the show. HBO Max's The Pitt took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series, while Apple TV+'s The Studio won Outstanding Comedy Series. Adolescence swept the Limited Series category, with 15-year-old Owen Cooper making history as the youngest male winner for Supporting Actor.

Vergara's sudden health scare came just one night after she was spotted in Las Vegas at the highly anticipated boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. She shared moments from the fight on Instagram, thanking Netflix for hosting her with the caption, "Gracias @netflix!!❤️ What a night!!"

Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her comments with support after she revealed her emergency room visit. "Oh no! Get well soon!" wrote America's Got Talent host Terry Crews, who works alongside Vergara on the hit reality competition series.

Despite missing one of television's biggest nights, Vergara reassured fans that she was recovering well. She has not yet confirmed whether her condition will affect upcoming projects, including her ongoing work on AGT and future acting roles.

The 2025 Emmys were broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and are now available to stream on Paramount+.
