Khadija Shaw has committed her future to Manchester City Women after signing a new four-year contract, completing a dramatic turnaround after it had appeared she was close to leaving the club this summer.

Only days earlier, uncertainty surrounded Shaw's future after contract discussions reportedly stalled, increasing speculation that she would depart as a free agent. Chelsea Women had emerged as strong contenders to sign the Jamaican forward following reports that negotiations with City had broken down.

Instead, the 29-year-old stunned supporters by announcing she would remain at the club during Manchester City's end-of-season celebrations, where she also received the club's player of the season award.

Addressing supporters during the event, Shaw confirmed her commitment to the club while emphasizing that she still has ambitions to achieve more.

"I am still here, I am still hungry and there is no place I would rather be," she said before celebrating with teammates on stage.

The announcement capped another outstanding campaign for Shaw, who finished as the Women's Super League's leading scorer for a third consecutive season. She netted 21 goals in 22 league appearances and played a major role in helping Manchester City secure their first league title since 2016.

Her impact extended beyond domestic success. Shaw also received recognition across the sport after being named the Football Writers' Association Women's Footballer of the Year and earning the Women's Super League Player of the Season award.

Across all competitions this season, Shaw has scored 26 goals and contributed seven assists in 31 appearances.

Since joining Manchester City in 2021, she has developed into one of the club's most influential players. Her record of 117 goals in 137 matches has established her as City's all-time leading scorer.

Director of football Therese Sjogran described Shaw's contract extension as a significant achievement for the club and praised her quality as one of the game's elite forwards.

The decision is viewed as one of the most important pieces of business ahead of the upcoming transfer window. City supporters had made their desire clear in recent weeks, repeatedly urging Shaw to remain at the club during title celebrations.

Manchester City will now turn their focus toward the Women's FA Cup final against Brighton & Hove Albion Women as they continue their pursuit of a domestic double.
