Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new long term contract with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until 2031, ending months of speculation about his future.

The 21 year old England international had previously been tied to a deal set to run until 2027, with an option for an additional year. However, uncertainty grew earlier this season after he struggled for consistent playing time under former manager Ruben Amorim. During that period, Mainoo even explored the possibility of a loan move to Napoli in January, but the club turned down the request and made it clear they saw him as part of their long term plans.

Since Amorim's departure, Mainoo has reestablished himself in the team under interim manager Michael Carrick. He has started nearly every league match since the managerial change, missing only one game due to injury. His return to regular action has also helped him regain a place in the England squad, where he recently featured in international friendlies.

Mainoo expressed his pride in committing his future to United, describing the club as his home and emphasizing his connection to it since joining the academy as a child. He said he remains motivated to succeed and is determined to contribute to the team's ambition of competing for major trophies in the coming years.

Club director of football Jason Wilcox praised Mainoo's development and character, describing him as one of the most naturally talented young players in the game. He highlighted the midfielder's technical ability, professionalism, and attitude as qualities that make him a role model for other young players coming through the academy system.

Mainoo's journey has been notable given how close he came to leaving earlier in the season. His lack of opportunities under the previous manager raised questions about

his role, but the change in leadership has transformed his situation. He is now seen as a key figure in the squad, with his composure on the ball and ability to operate in tight spaces setting him apart.

While still developing, Mainoo has already established himself as one of England's most promising midfielders. His new contract reflects the club's belief in his potential and secures the future of a homegrown talent who could play a central role in Manchester United's ambitions for years to come.
