President Donald Trump on Tuesday sharply criticized NATO allies for their reluctance to participate in the ongoing conflict in Iran, while insisting the United States is fully capable of continuing operations without external assistance.

Speaking during an Oval Office meeting with Ireland's prime minister, Trump described the alliance's stance as a "very foolish mistake," underscoring long-standing frustrations with NATO burden-sharing. He emphasized that while many countries support U.S. actions politically, they have stopped short of committing military resources.

Trump framed the situation as a defining moment for the alliance, arguing that despite their hesitation, the U.S. has achieved significant military success. He reiterated that Washington never depended on NATO involvement, adding that current operations would proceed regardless of allied participation.

The president has in recent days urged global partners to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil transit route handling a substantial portion of the world's supply. Iran's military actions, including drones and naval disruptions, have effectively constrained passage through the strait, raising concerns in global energy markets.

However, several allied nations signaled they have no immediate plans to deploy forces, a response that appeared to frustrate Trump. In earlier remarks posted online, he suggested that the U.S. has reached a point where it neither needs nor seeks NATO's assistance.

Despite his criticism, Trump indicated he is not currently considering retaliatory measures against alliance members. Instead, he suggested the U.S. would remember their position moving forward.

Separately, Trump addressed his anticipated trip to China, saying a meeting with President Xi Jinping could take place within five to six weeks. The timeline suggests a possible delay, as tensions between the two nations rise amid the Iran conflict and renewed scrutiny of Chinese trade practices.
