Justin Timberlake has revealed he has been battling Lyme disease, a diagnosis he quietly endured throughout his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. In an Instagram post shared on July 31, just one day after the tour wrapped in Istanbul, the singer opened up about the physical and mental toll the illness has taken on him.

"I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease which I don't say so you feel bad for me, but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes," he wrote.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection typically spread to humans through tick bites, often causing nerve pain, extreme fatigue, rashes, and other chronic symptoms. Timberlake, 44, explained that the condition had been affecting his performances in ways that audiences may not have realized. "Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically," he shared.

Fans had previously speculated about his seemingly low-energy stage presence during certain tour stops, with viral clips drawing criticism. Timberlake admitted the diagnosis helped explain symptoms that had been impacting him during performances. "When I first got the diagnosis, I was shocked for sure. But at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness."

Faced with a difficult choice on whether to stop the tour or continue, Timberlake chose to keep going. "I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going," he wrote, noting that the experience ultimately proved his "mental tenacity."

Despite being a private person, Timberlake said he chose to open up about his struggles "so that they aren't misinterpreted," adding, "I'd like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too."

The Forget Tomorrow World Tour began in April 2024 in Vancouver and ended over a year later, having travelled through North America, Europe, South America, and Mexico. The trek followed the release of Timberlake's sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was, and placed him among Billboard's top 10 touring artists, grossing over $73 million by midyear.
