Taylor Swift embraced her cowgirl era during a surprise appearance at the Toy Story 5 premiere, where she paid subtle tribute to one of the franchise's most beloved characters through her fashion and hairstyle.
The 14-time Grammy winner took the stage at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre on June 9 to perform at the premiere of the upcoming Disney-Pixar sequel, which features her new song, "I Knew It, I Knew You." For the special occasion, Swift wore a striking floor-length yellow gown by Oscar de la Renta. The dress featured a deep V-neckline and was embellished with sparkling floral details that added glamour to the look.
Her hairstyle appeared to be a nod to Jessie, the energetic cowgirl toy from the Toy Story films. Swift styled her hair in a relaxed braid that draped down her back, with loose strands framing her face. The look echoed Jessie's signature braided hairstyle, which the character wears beneath her iconic red cowboy hat.
During the event, Swift treated attendees to two performances. She opened with "I Knew It, I Knew You," the new song she wrote for the film. After performing, she took a moment to praise the team behind Toy Story 5, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the franchise.
Speaking to the audience, Swift said it meant a great deal to be part of the world of Toy Story. She described the fifth installment as her favorite in the series, calling it both beautiful and masterfully crafted. The singer also thanked the artists, filmmakers and crew members whose work helped bring the movie to life.
Swift offered special recognition to actress Joan Cusack, who returns as Jessie in the new film. She praised Cusack's performance and said it was an honor to write music for a character brought to life by her work.
Before wrapping up her remarks, Swift revealed one final surprise for the crowd. She welcomed legendary composer Randy Newman to the stage, calling him the creative force behind the franchise's musical legacy. The pair then performed the classic Toy Story anthem, You've Got a Friend in Me, delighting fans in attendance.
Earlier in the evening, Swift walked the red carpet in an all-white off-the-shoulder mini dress that drew comparisons to another Toy Story favorite, Bo Peep. She also joined the film's cast for photos and posed with a signed VHS copy of the original Toy Story.
Toy Story 5 is set to arrive in theaters on June 19.
