Queen Latifah is preparing for a return to the American Music Awards stage, stepping into the role of host more than three decades after first taking part in the show.

The music and film icon, 56, will host the 2026 American Music Awards live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25. Her return marks a full-circle moment after she previously cohosted the ceremony in 1995 alongside Tom Jones and Lorrie Morgan.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Latifah admitted that the experience still feels surreal. She recalled how significant hosting the event felt back in the 1990s and expressed amazement at returning to lead the show once again.

Unlike her earlier experience, Latifah will now be handling hosting duties on her own. She said she feels a combination of excitement and nerves but is confident that the event will deliver a memorable experience for audiences.

Latifah highlighted one of the elements she believes makes the American Music Awards unique, explaining that the event is driven heavily by fans and their choices. She emphasized that viewers play a major role in selecting winners and deciding which artists receive support, making the show feel more connected to the public.

This year's ceremony is set to feature performances from several major artists, including Billy Idol, Karol G, Darius Rucker alongside Hootie & the Blowfish, as well as Keith Urban, Maluma, Busta Rhymes and The Pussycat Dolls among others.

When asked which performance she is most eager to see, Latifah did not hesitate. She pointed to the anticipated appearance involving Busta Rhymes and The Pussycat Dolls, saying she expects it to be one of the standout moments of the evening because of the performers' energy and stage presence.

Latifah also reflected on her past experiences hosting award shows, explaining that she enjoys being part of the excitement and helping guide viewers through the celebration. She sees the role as bringing people together while honoring artists and creating memorable moments for audiences.
