The 28 year old singer, whose real name is Rachel Keen, opened the festival on April 23 at the Fair Grounds Race Course with a set featuring several of her well known songs. However, the show took an unexpected turn during her performance of "Skin & Bones" when she noticed a situation in the crowd that required urgent attention.
RAYE stopped mid song and asked security and medical staff to clear a path so they could reach a festivalgoer in need of assistance. Addressing the audience from the Shell Gentilly Stage, she politely requested patience while the situation was handled. The crowd responded supportively and applauded as help was provided. She later asked nearby fans to signal with a thumbs up once everything was under control.
After about a minute, RAYE confirmed that the situation had been resolved and resumed her performance, telling the audience they would continue the set and learn the next lyrics together while checking that the attendee was okay.
The emotional tone of the show continued later when RAYE received a fan sign and began interacting with the crowd. While speaking to a woman in the audience, she learned that the fan had just been proposed to by her boyfriend, a moment that surprised both the singer and the crowd. Clearly moved, RAYE reacted with excitement and congratulated the couple.
She then promised to bring them back onstage during her performance of "Where Is My Husband?" and later fulfilled that promise. The newly engaged pair were welcomed onto the stage, where they sat as RAYE introduced them to the audience and celebrated their moment in front of the crowd.
The festival's opening day also featured performances by other major artists including Kings of Leon and Stephen Marley. The event took place under heightened awareness following reports that authorities recently disrupted a planned attack in Louisiana, though officials confirmed that security coordination remained strong and the festival would continue safely.
Organizers stated they are working closely with law enforcement agencies and emphasized their commitment to maintaining a secure and joyful experience for attendees throughout the festival.
