Pete Davidson has opened up about his past relationship with Kim Kardashian, revealing that there is still plenty of love between them while reflecting on the intense backlash he faced from her ex-husband, Kanye West.

Davidson and Kardashian began dating in 2021 after meeting on Saturday Night Live, eventually splitting in 2022 after roughly nine months together. Looking back several years later, Davidson said there is no bad blood between them.

"We're cool," he told Variety. "I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into."

The comedian said he was drawn to Kardashian and her family despite the extraordinary level of attention surrounding them. He described the Kardashian lifestyle as something he found "very attractive and mature," but admitted that constantly being followed, having security and feeling like he had to watch his surroundings became overwhelming.

"I was never subjected to anything I didn't want to be a part of," Davidson said. "She was super respectful of all of it, but the craze of that lifestyle—being followed everywhere, having security and looking over your shoulder—for a guy with mental stuff, and at the time drug problems, was a little too much for me."

The situation became even more difficult because of West, who repeatedly targeted Davidson online while he was dating Kardashian. West's 2022 "Eazy" music video famously featured a claymation version of Davidson being kidnapped and beheaded.

Davidson said the attacks hit particularly hard because he had been open about his mental health struggles.

"What tripped me out is I was super open about mental stuff—everyone knows this about me—and it's like he was [saying], 'Kill yourself,'" Davidson recalled. "And he did push me."

Despite everything that happened, Davidson said he has some understanding of the pressure West was dealing with publicly. He pointed to West losing a parent and the intense scrutiny surrounding his life, while acknowledging that he could not know exactly what the rapper was experiencing.

Looking back, Davidson even joked that enduring West's attacks helped clear the way for Kardashian to date again.
