Bebe Rexha is looking back on a difficult moment in her career and revealing that Taylor Swift quietly reached out to her when she needed some support.
The "Meant to Be" singer, 37, opened up about the gesture while speaking to E! News at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Rexha was asked about Swift's reputation for supporting other women in the music industry, which brought her back to the controversy surrounding the 2019 Grammys.
"I remember when I had that whole Grammys situation when I couldn't find a dress and she reached out to me because we're the same age, and I thought that was really, really kind of her," Rexha recalled.
"Nobody really reached out," she added. "Some people did, but for her at such a high level to make me feel like I belonged was really, really nice."
Rexha had been nominated for two Grammys that year, including Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. But ahead of the ceremony, she took to Instagram to explain that several designers had turned down requests to dress her because of her size.
At the time, Rexha said she wore between a size 6 and 8 and questioned why designers would not make options for women outside traditional runway measurements.
"So I finally get nominated at the Grammys and it's like the coolest thing ever," she said in the video.
"And a lot of times artists will go and talk to designers and they'll make them custom dresses to walk the red carpet. So I had my team hit out a lot of designers and a lot of them do not want to dress me because I'm too big."
She later made it clear that she had no intention of letting the experience keep her away from the ceremony.
"If you don't like my fashion style or my music that's one thing. But don't say you can't dress someone that isn't a runway size," Rexha wrote at the time. "Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less then by their size. We are beautiful any size! Small or large!"
Rexha ultimately attended the Grammys in a red Monsoori gown.
Years later, she says it was Swift's personal gesture that stayed with her.
Swift herself had a major night at this year's VMAs, where she received the inaugural Artist Director Honors, recognizing her work in music videos and visual storytelling.
