Travis Kelce has explained why he and Taylor Swift decided to hold their wedding at New York City's Madison Square Garden, revealing that the couple wanted a setting that felt private despite the venue's enormous size.
Kelce discussed the July 3 wedding during the Sept. 2 return of his New Heights podcast, speaking about the ceremony nearly two months after he and Swift exchanged vows.
According to Kelce, the couple deliberately chose MSG because they wanted their celebration to feel personal and free from outside distractions.
"We wanted to do it somewhere where we could have a very intimate and genuine setting without a lot of distractions," he explained. "We needed it to be a private feel. And MSG went above and beyond to give us that."
Kelce said the evening became a memorable gathering of people from different parts of the couple's lives, including family members, childhood friends and professional acquaintances.
"It was so cool to see everyone from my childhood not only mesh with Taylor, but the people from her childhood and her family and friends," he said.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end also reflected on the atmosphere of the celebration, saying he and Swift were grateful to everyone who attended and that the night had been "very magical."
His brother Jason Kelce, who served as best man, also spoke about the ceremony, praising the way the couple structured the evening. Rather than focusing heavily on formal speeches after the vows, the celebration moved into a party.
"The ceremony was beautiful," Jason said. "The thing I really liked about this wedding in particular ... was like after all that was done, there wasn't like the sit down formal stuff."
Adam Sandler also played a central role, officiating the ceremony after being chosen by the couple. Travis praised the actor for agreeing to get ordained in New York and for the way he handled the ceremony.
"He has been just the f--king best person on this planet," Travis said.
The wedding was reportedly attended by a number of high-profile figures, including Brad Pitt, Paul McCartney and Conan O'Brien. The couple also made the event phone-free, a decision Kelce said helped guests remain present rather than focusing on their devices.
"With no phones comes people not having to be on guard," he explained. "It makes everyone be in the moment and be present."
Looking back, Kelce said there was one thing he would have changed: he wished the celebration had continued for longer.
"It was just so magical man, I wish it could have lasted longer than it did," he said.
