Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star is being repaired after it was reportedly vandalized with multiple scratches just days after the country music legend's death.
The star, located on Hollywood Boulevard, was damaged sometime before Tuesday after a fan noticed the scratches and shared photos on social media. Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, confirmed that the damage appeared to be intentional.
Parton's star had already shown signs of age, including cracks and weather damage, and was scheduled for repairs before the vandalism was discovered. The flowers and other tributes fans had left at the landmark following Parton's death were removed so crews could begin the work.
The Hollywood Historic Trust, the nonprofit organization responsible for maintaining and repairing the Walk of Fame stars, is handling the restoration. Parton's family will not be responsible for the cost.
According to Martinez, the repaired star needs several days to cure before crews can return to polish it. The restoration is expected to be completed Friday morning, when fans will once again be able to visit the landmark.
"The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star," the trust said.
The star was originally dedicated to Parton in 1984, recognizing a career that eventually made her one of the most celebrated entertainers in music history.
Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, according to a statement from her team. She was laid to rest days before the reported vandalism.
