Chase Stokes is setting the record straight about the plastic surgery rumors that have followed him online.
The Outer Banks star, 33, addressed speculation about his appearance during a Sept. 1 episode of the I've Never Said This Before podcast with host Tommy DiDario. When asked about the "most ridiculous assumption or rumor" he had seen about himself on the internet, Stokes immediately pointed to claims that he had undergone cosmetic procedures.
"The amount of plastic surgery I've had," he said.
Stokes explained that he has even come across medical professionals online weighing in on his appearance and suggesting he has had procedures including an upper blepharoplasty and lip work.
"I see these doctors who are like, 'He's got an upper [blepharoplasty]' and, 'He's got his lips done.' Like legitimate doctors," he said.
The actor then made his position clear.
"On the record, I will say it, I've never had any work done on my face," Stokes said. "It's so funny to me to see them go into the details of it all. I'm like, 'Oh man, you should probably have your license revoked there.'"
Rather than continuing to argue with people online, Stokes said he has learned that responding can sometimes give the rumors even more attention.
"I used to be a little more online with that stuff, but I've realized to just shut up," he explained. "It's so tough, but then you realize when you comment, you give them more exposure."
The conversation comes shortly after Outer Banks wrapped its five-season run on Netflix, with the final season released on Aug. 20. Stokes played John B. throughout the series, a role he said had become closely tied to his identity.
Stokes has also spoken openly about the physical demands of playing John B and the changes he has made since finishing the series. In a recent interview with Men's Health, he described adjusting his fitness routine, moving away from the lighter weights and higher repetitions he used to maintain John B.'s lean physique.
"There was a lot of lighter weight, higher reps with John B. to sort of keep that lean look, and now, it's a lot more of heavy compound lifts," he said.
