The country music star took a tumble during his concert in Cincinnati on Thursday. Fans captured the moment and shared it to social media, showing that McGraw lost his footing while performing “I Like It, I Love it” atop a small platform on the stage.
But the 59-year-old didn’t stay down for long. After falling on his back, McGraw popped right back up and inspected the area he had been standing on.
“There’s a hole there,” he said with a laugh before continuing the song.
After the concert, the “Something Like That” artist acknowledged the slip-up in an Instagram post on Friday. He thanked the crowd for being good sports.
“Cincinnati, you started our weekend off on the right foot even if I couldn’t stay on mine,” he captioned his post, adding a laughing emoji. “We appreciate you coming out and singing along!”
The fall wasn’t the only setback during the show, as McGraw reportedly started 40 minutes late due to travel and weather issues, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Luckily, he still came out to perform and included a rendition of his song “My Best Friend,” which the outlet said was a request from his wife Faith Hill.
McGraw and Hill have been married for nearly 30 years. The “Live Like You Were Dying” crooner has previously credited his wife for saving his life.
“I guarantee you, had I not gotten married to Faith at 29 years old, A. I probably would’ve ran my career into the ground and B. I would’ve died already with my career into the ground — one or the other, and it wouldn’t have ever been where it’s at now,” he told host Zane Lowe on his Apple Music show in August 2023.
McGraw has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and his decision to get sober in 2008. Hill was an instrumental part of his recovery journey, as she told him to straighten out for the sake of their family.
