U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham surprised a newlywed couple with a special video message after the bride jokingly asked him not to "ruin" their wedding.
The unexpected message came after Sarah Burwin, who goes by Saz on TikTok, posted a video directed at Burnham on July 24, the day he officially opened his new No. 10 North outpost at Heron House in Manchester, England.
Burwin and her fiancé, Frederick Jackson, were due to marry at the registry office inside the building on Aug. 21. However, she became concerned after seeing increased security around the site following the opening of Burnham's new office.
"Andy Burnham please don't ruin my wedding," Burwin wrote over the TikTok video.
In the clip, she explained that she had seen news reports showing police, bollards and other security measures around Heron House.
"I'm actually getting married there on the 21st of August," she said, adding that she had hoped to take photographs outside after the ceremony. She worried the security arrangements might affect the atmosphere and appearance of the wedding.
Burwin then made a playful request to Burnham, asking him not to work from the building on her wedding day.
"I mean, you're invited, but maybe without the police escorts," she joked.
Burnham responded to her video the following day, writing, "Noted Saz..." Burwin then took the joke further, replying that she would not turn down a DJ set at No. 10 North after the wedding.
After the video gained attention, Burwin sent Burnham's office an official wedding invitation. In an email, she explained that after publicly asking him not to ruin her wedding, she wanted to give him the opportunity to do the opposite.
She told Burnham he was welcome to attend if he had time, while again jokingly suggesting that a DJ set would make the perfect wedding present.
Burnham ultimately respected her original request and stayed away from Heron House on the wedding day. However, he sent the couple a video message instead.
Burwin later shared footage of herself and Jackson watching the message. The couple laughed and smiled as Burnham congratulated them and explained that he was honoring her original request to stay out of the way.
"I couldn't let the day go by without sending you both a message," Burnham said, wishing them a wonderful celebration.
He also joked that the DJ set would have to wait, but encouraged the couple to play some "big Manchester bangers" on his behalf.
Burnham later commented on Burwin's post, congratulating the newlyweds and apologizing that he could not deliver the DJ set.
"Thank you Andy!! you made our day," Burwin replied.
