Hilaria Baldwin has taken the opportunity to push back against long-standing assumptions about her marriage to actor Alec Baldwin. Speaking on SiriusXM's Page Six Radio, she addressed the "gold digger vibes" that some people have attached to their relationship, insisting, "I'm not that way."
The couple met in 2011, when Alec was already a well-known movie star at 52 and Hilaria was a 27-year-old yoga instructor living in a modest New York apartment. She recalled using her old laptop to warm her hands at night, emphasizing that she never wanted Alec's wealth to define their bond.
"From the beginning, he would always try to buy me things and I would be like, 'No, I don't want this,'" she explained. For her, refusing gifts was about ensuring she liked him for who he was, not what he could provide. "I don't want to be a prisoner either. It's two ways," she added.
The two married in June 2012 and have since welcomed seven children together: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, María, and Ilaria. Hilaria pointed out that raising such a large family hardly fits the stereotype.
"First of all, seven kids? Not what gold diggers should do. Have one then get out. Don't have seven because they're very expensive," she quipped.
Beyond defending her relationship, Hilaria also reflected on the realities of parenting. She recently traveled with all of her children without Alec or a nanny, and admitted it was challenging. She noticed her kids lacked certain everyday skills, such as loading a dishwasher or cleaning up after meals.
"Because we're there and my kids, who are like little Baldwins, don't know simple things... I had to bring them back to my roots," she said. Teaching them independence, she explained, was essential so they wouldn't "get stuck in something."
Despite the public scrutiny, Hilaria emphasized that her marriage thrives because both partners choose to stay committed through ups and downs. "Life should be long and very beautiful and wonderful and exciting... but at the same time, bad things happen in everybody's life and people have seen it very publicly with our life," she shared.
For her, the strength of their relationship lies in wanting to be present even during difficult times.
