Camila Mendes has shared a heartfelt perspective on love and marriage, revealing that she is entering her engagement to musician Rudy Mancuso with a more realistic outlook on relationships and life.
The 32-year-old actress spoke about her relationship during an appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast on July 27. Mendes and Mancuso, 34, got engaged in October 2025 during a surprise engagement celebration, marking a new chapter in their relationship.
During the conversation, the Masters of the Universe star reflected on how witnessing her parents' divorce shaped her views on commitment. She admitted that for years she felt pressure to avoid making mistakes in her own relationships and became focused on finding the "perfect" partner to prevent a similar outcome.
However, Mendes said recent life experiences have taught her that the future is impossible to predict. She explained that unexpected events can force people to make difficult decisions they never imagined, making it impossible to control every aspect of life.
The actress acknowledged that she once believed success in a relationship depended on making every decision correctly. Over time, she realized that this mindset placed unnecessary pressure on both herself and her partner. Therapy has helped her embrace uncertainty and accept that no relationship comes with guarantees.
Mendes even admitted she has accepted that divorce could one day become part of her story. Rather than fearing that possibility, she said she feels reassured by seeing both of her parents rebuild their lives after separating. Their experience gave her confidence that, whatever happens, people can heal and move forward while ensuring their children are loved and supported.
Despite her realistic outlook, Mendes spoke warmly about Mancuso, describing him as her best friend and the first person she could truly imagine spending her life with. She said they have already faced difficult moments together, yet her commitment to him has never wavered.
According to Mendes, love is an ongoing choice. She explained that she chooses Mancuso every day and intends to continue doing so unless life presents a reason otherwise. She believes they share the same long-term vision and are prepared to face life's challenges together as partners.
The actress also said their relationship has shown them each other's flaws, but that accepting those imperfections has only strengthened their bond. She described that level of acceptance as genuine love.
As for wedding plans, Mendes revealed there is no rush to walk down the aisle. She explained that planning has been progressing slowly because the couple recently purchased a home together, making settling into their new space their current priority. Although preparations are moving at a relaxed pace, she confirmed they have already chosen a wedding venue.
