Eric Roberts is breaking his silence after missing his daughter Emma Roberts' wedding to actor Cody John, which took place in Idaho on July 25.
Eric, 70, who shares Emma with ex Kelly Cunningham, issued a statement to Page Six two days after the ceremony. "I love my daughter, always have, always will," he said. "It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants."
Emma, 35, and Cody, 36, exchanged vows in a picturesque outdoor ceremony surrounded by family and friends. The bride wore a vintage-inspired Monique Lhuillier gown with a removable shawl, while the groom opted for a chocolate brown suit that blended seamlessly with the natural backdrop.
One of the most touching moments came when Emma's five-year-old son Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund, walked her down the aisle.
Her aunt Julia Roberts attended alongside husband Danny Moder, while stars including Demi Moore, Kristen Stewart, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, and Ashley Benson were also present.
Eric's absence was notable, especially given the complicated history between father and daughter. In past interviews, he has admitted to struggling with drug addiction during Emma's childhood, describing himself as "a wash rag" and "not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever."
He has also acknowledged taking "full responsibility" for those years. Despite the challenges, Eric has consistently expressed pride in Emma's career, saying earlier this year, "I'm so proud of my kid."
Emma has not publicly commented on her father missing the wedding. However, Eric has previously insisted that their relationship is not estranged, telling Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson that outsiders often misinterpret their dynamic. "It's only complicated through outside eyes," he explained.
