Millie Bobby Brown is speaking candidly about the moment she and husband Jake Bongiovi learned they were about to become parents, describing the call that confirmed their daughter's adoption as the most meaningful of her life. The 22-year-old actress appeared on the July 13 episode of Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, where she reflected on the experience of welcoming her baby girl, who joined the family in the summer of 2025.
"Getting the call, I mean, I will never forget it," Brown said. "It was the most surreal feeling and yet we both knew in that moment that we had found each other. Like, oh my goodness, this is our girl, 100 percent, no doubt."
When Shetty asked whether she had recorded the conversation, Brown said she hadn't — and that the decision felt right. "My whole life's recorded," she explained. "My husband and I will never forget those words, where we were, what we were doing, the feeling. And I think in so many ways, that shouldn't be recorded. It's almost like you had to be there."
Brown described the adoption process as lengthy but worthwhile, noting that the thoroughness of it gave her confidence. The hardest part, she said, was simply the waiting. Along the way, she found comfort in connecting with other adoptive parents who offered guidance and encouragement. One conversation in particular stayed with her.
"There are two ways to have a baby, one through your stomach and one through your heart," she recalled being told, "and my girl was through my heart."
The Enola Holmes star has been open about adoption being a long-held dream. On a June episode of Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce, she said the decision felt like a natural part of her vision for the future. "Adoption is love. Adoption is forever," she said simply.
Brown, who has not shared her daughter's name publicly, told PEOPLE the two love getting creative together at home, with the little girl's artwork permanently on display. Bongiovi, 24, has been equally committed to the journey from the start, with a source previously telling PEOPLE the pair are fully in it together.
