Ariana Grande has quietly rekindled her romance with former boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, nearly a decade after their first relationship. The singer, currently on her Eternal Sunshine tour, sparked speculation when she altered the lyrics of her hit "Thank U, Next" during her Brooklyn show on July 13.
Instead of the original line, "Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh," she sang, "Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back." The crowd erupted, taking it as a clear sign the two were reconnecting.
Grande and Alvarez first dated between 2015 and 2016 after meeting on her Honeymoon Tour, where Alvarez worked as a backup dancer. Their relationship lasted just over a year, but insiders say they remained close friends.
"Ariana has always considered Ricky a friend," one source explained, adding that he is "dependable, trustworthy and very supportive."
The pair were spotted together in Austin, Texas, in late June, grabbing lunch and later spending the Fourth of July weekend in Florida with Grande's family.
A source told People that they are "taking things very slowly" and "not jumping into anything serious right away." Still, Grande is said to be happy to have Alvarez back in her life.
Alvarez, now a professional photographer and director based in San Diego, has built a career working with major brands like Nike, Adidas, and Calvin Klein. His creative work, according to his bio, reflects "life's contrasts, disruptions of form, fashion, identity, and his own cultural upbringing."
Grande herself has been single for several months following her split from Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. Their relationship ended amicably, with sources noting they remain supportive of one another. Since then, Grande has focused on her tour and reconnecting with fans.
Friends say Alvarez brings a sense of ease and humor to her life. "He has such great, positive energy, makes her laugh, and she enjoys spending time with him," one insider shared. Another added that they share "a similar, smart, dry sense of humor."
Neither Grande nor Alvarez has made an official statement.
