Erling Haaland has revealed an unexpected way he plans to spend his downtime between World Cup matches, and it has everything to do with his growing popularity.

The 25-year-old Norway striker took to X on July 9 with a playful message for fans, writing, "One thing to do today... search my name on Google 😉."

The post was tied to a new Google feature celebrating Haaland's impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Fans who search for his name are greeted with a special animation featuring Vikings performing Norway's signature Viking row celebration across the bottom of the screen.

The tribute reflects Haaland's rising profile during his first World Cup appearance, where he has emerged as one of the tournament's standout stars.

His growing popularity extends well beyond the pitch. According to The Athletic's Sam Lee, Haaland's representatives have been told that social media platforms are increasingly prioritizing content featuring the Norwegian forward because of soaring fan interest.

Lee also reported that Haaland's surge in popularity in the United States has drawn comparisons to the attention NFL star Travis Kelce received after beginning his relationship with Taylor Swift, a period that coincided with the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl-winning season.

Haaland has certainly given supporters plenty to celebrate. The Manchester City striker scored twice in Norway's memorable 3-2 victory over Brazil in the Round of 16 on July 5, helping his country reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in its history.

Following the landmark win, Haaland described the occasion as one of the greatest moments in Norwegian sporting history.

"We're very proud of this, and it was certainly a huge game for Norway against Brazil," he said. "I think this will inspire many young people, just as I was inspired when I was young. Everyone needs to enjoy and savor this great victory. This is Norway's biggest victory in soccer."

The striker added that the achievement still felt surreal, saying the entire experience had been "crazy" and "wonderful."

Off the field, Haaland shares one child with his longtime partner, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who has been supporting Norway throughout the tournament.

Norway's remarkable World Cup journey now continues with a quarterfinal showdown against England on July 11. With Haaland in top form and confidence within the squad at an all-time high, Norway will be hoping to continue its historic run and move one step closer to a first-ever World Cup title.
