Jane Seymour is getting married again. The Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman icon confirmed her engagement to musician and emergency room physician John Zambetti, 78, after nearly three years together — and the proposal story is exactly as chaotic and charming as you'd hope from two people who have genuinely stopped caring what anyone thinks.
Zambetti got down on one knee at their Malibu home on Valentine's Day, the night before Seymour's birthday. He had the ring stashed in a safe, pulled it out, opened the box — and watched it bounce straight off the bed and onto the floor. He then crawled underneath to retrieve it, promptly got stuck, and couldn't get back up. Seymour had to climb out of bed and attempt to haul him free. "And we weren't wearing any clothes," she added cheerfully.
"His knee was now stuck from being under the bed and I'm not strong enough to pull him up because he weighs almost twice what I do," Seymour recalled. "We looked at one another and started laughing hysterically."
The ring itself is a deliberate two-stone design — Zambetti's way of representing two people with full, separate lives finding each other. The pavé path leading up to each stone, he explained, represents their individual journeys before meeting. "I'm just kind of old school," he said. "I don't like this partner talk. To me, we're not forming a law firm."
Before settling on the bedroom proposal, Zambetti had considered enlisting their friend Mick Jagger to slip him the ring mid-dinner — a scheme he ultimately abandoned as "totally preposterous."
Seymour, who has been married and divorced four times and has six children, said she was caught off guard by the timing even if not the sentiment. "I knew he had found a ring," she admitted. What she didn't expect was feeling the way she now does. "I just feel nothing but pure unconditional love and support," she said of Zambetti. "He's just the kindest, most intelligent, loving, caring, giving human being I've ever met."
The couple confirmed the news publicly at the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala Thursday night, where Seymour showed off her ring on the red carpet.
