Just days before making her national reality television debut, Love Island USA Season 8 cast member Vasana Montgomery has officially issued a public apology following her abrupt, pre-premiere removal from the hit Peacock series. The 25-year-old salon owner from Beaverton, Oregon, broke her silence after production executives quietly booted her from the show when historical videos of her using a racial slur surfaced online.

Montgomery was initially unveiled late last week as one of the 12 primary “islanders” set to enter the villa for the highly anticipated summer season. However, almost immediately following the cast announcement, internet sleuths began digging into the contestants’ backgrounds. Two separate throwback videos from Montgomery’s past quickly went viral on platforms like TikTok and X. In one clip, Montgomery is seen singing along to a song and uttering the N-word. In a second video, she is heard aggressively yelling the exact same racial slur at a friend who was playing an arcade game.

As public backlash mounted, Peacock and the show’s production team acted swiftly, announcing that Montgomery had been officially disqualified and would no longer appear on the broadcast. According to production sources, the casting department was completely unaware of the footage prior to the public rollout, as the clips had been saved in private social media circles that were inaccessible during the network’s standard background vetting process.

Addressing the controversy via her Instagram Story, Montgomery expressed deep humiliation and took full accountability for her past behavior, confirming that the videos dated back to her teenage years. “There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry,” Montgomery stated in her public apology. “I am embarrassed by my actions.”

She went on to claim that she has evolved significantly since the videos were filmed, noting that she has “taken the time to listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have.” While acknowledging that she cannot undo her past mistakes, Montgomery stated she respects the network’s decision to remove her from the platform.

Montgomery’s swift ejection sets a firm precedent for the franchise as it kicks off its eighth season. This is not the first time Love Island USA has had to navigate sudden cast removals due to problematic behavior, but network executives have increasingly doubled down on a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism and hate speech.
