The Grey's Anatomy alum recently revealed that she and Nathan, whom she married in 2002, have quietly separated.
Chyler revealed their split—though she didn't specify when—during an interview on the Books That Changed My Life podcast, when presenter Chris Collins inquired about a time in her life when she needed to get help.
"I think getting to a point where my relationship with my ex had reached a point where it was just time," she stated on May 12. "It was time to let go." Even after so long. We had been together for 26 years.
Chyler, who has three children, Noah, 23; Taelyn, 19; and Anniston, 17, acknowledged the breakup as "amicable" and that they are coparenting.
"We're doing everything we can," she added, "but it got to the point where we realized, 'Okay, what you want and what I want don't really line up anymore.' "And I'd prefer we be on good terms than carry bitterness and anger—all that crap. "It is not worth it."
She also stated that their mismatch had become "abundantly apparent" to the point that even their children "were picking up on it," adding, "It just shifts the mood and dynamic of everything."
The 44-year-old admitted that the "family trauma" she and Nathan had each undergone individually had begun to impact their relationship.
"We're just perpetuating that cycle," she explained. "And so it was like, 'Okay, we need to make a decision. "We need to make a decision."
Chyler and Nathan, then 16 and 20, met during an audition for a WB pilot in 1999, according to Entertainment Weekly, and married three years later.
While Chyler has kept much of her personal life private and off social media, in May 2025, she released a photo of her family celebrating daughter Anniston's 16th birthday at Disney World.
"The last couple of days have been such a blast," Chyler captioned her photo, which included the Supergirl alum and her children. "Thank you to everyone at Disney for making my little girl's Sweet 16 more memorable and special than I could have imagined! Special thanks to our tour guide, Frank!! "This is truly the happiest place on Earth."
