Kelly Hopton-Jones is opening up about a devastating accident involving her young son, sharing an emotional update as her family processes what happened.

The parenting influencer, who runs the Hillside Farmhouse blog, revealed that her 23 month old son Henry is recovering in hospital after she accidentally struck him with her car. In an Instagram post shared on April 15, she described the experience as the worst day of their lives, adding that everything changed in an instant.

Kelly, who is also a mother to her three year old daughter Lily with husband Brian Hopton-Jones, explained that the incident occurred as she and her daughter were leaving their driveway to attend a dance performance. She said her son had moved behind the vehicle without her knowledge as she began to drive.

Neighbors quickly stepped in to help, taking care of Lily while Kelly and her family rushed Henry to the emergency room. Drawing from her background as a pediatric nurse practitioner, she described the situation as every parent's nightmare.

Despite the frightening nature of the accident, doctors confirmed that Henry's injuries were not as severe as initially feared. He did not suffer any head trauma or major internal damage. However, he sustained fractures to his pelvis along with several abrasions, which will require time to heal.

Kelly shared that hearing doctors say her son would recover brought immense relief, calling it a miracle. At the same time, she admitted that the emotional toll has been overwhelming. She said both she and her husband remain in shock and are deeply saddened by what happened.

Reflecting on the incident, Kelly spoke candidly about the difficult thoughts that have followed, including the many ways she feels the accident could have been prevented. She acknowledged the weight of those feelings, while also trying to approach the situation with compassion.

She noted that if her own children were ever in a similar situation, she would respond with far more kindness than she and her husband have shown themselves. Kelly emphasized that accidents can happen, and the most important thing is to learn from them.

While the experience has been life changing, she expressed gratitude that the outcome was not worse. She shared that the family is holding their son closer than ever as he continues to recover.
