Katy Perry is at the centre of a police investigation in Australia following sexual assault allegations made by actor Ruby Rose.

Victoria Police confirmed that detectives from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are examining what they described as a historical case. In a statement, authorities said, "Melbourne sexual offences and child abuse investigation team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating [an alleged] historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010," adding that the incident was reported to have taken place "at a licensed premises in Melbourne's CBD."

The investigation follows claims made by Rose on social media, where she alleged that Perry assaulted her at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. In one post, Rose wrote, "Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks."

Rose later indicated that she had formally reported the matter to police and would no longer speak publicly about it. She shared an update online stating, "As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved."
She added that the restriction was part of standard procedure and described it as a relief, saying it would allow her to begin healing.

In response, Perry has strongly denied the allegations. A representative for the singer said, "The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies."

The statement also claimed that Rose has previously made serious allegations publicly that were denied by those involved.

Police have not released further details, noting that the investigation is ongoing and that it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.
