Olivia Rodrigo is officially entering a new era, announcing her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, set for release on June 12.

The 23-year-old revealed the news on April 2, sharing the album title and artwork with fans. "my third album 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love' is out June 12th," she wrote. "I am so proud of this record and I can't wait for you to hear it. available for preorder now! "

Alongside the announcement, Rodrigo unveiled the album cover, which shows her upside down on a swing, smiling against a soft, pink-toned backdrop. The visual signals a shift in tone from her previous eras, with a lighter aesthetic replacing the darker palette associated with Guts.

The project reunites Rodrigo with longtime collaborator Daniel Nigro, who worked with her on both Sour (2021) and Guts (2023), albums that each debuted at No. 1 and cemented her place as one of pop's leading voices.

Speaking about the album's direction, Rodrigo described it as "a creative challenge to write from a joyful place." She explained that being in a happy relationship made songwriting feel different, noting, "When you're experiencing that you're connected to someone, or feeling really good, you're not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!"

Despite that shift, the album still leans into emotional complexity. Rodrigo shared that many of the songs explore love through a more vulnerable lens, saying her favourite romantic tracks often carry "a tinge of fear or yearning." She added that the record includes several "sad love songs," blending happiness with uncertainty.
Following the massive success of Sour and Guts, the upcoming album marks the next step in Rodrigo's evolution as an artist, with fans already eagerly anticipating its release.
