Brooklyn Beckham appeared to take another pointed swipe at his mother, Victoria Beckham, after failing to acknowledge her on Britain's Mothering Sunday while instead sharing a glowing tribute to his mother-in-law, Claudia Peltz.
As families across the United Kingdom marked the annual celebration with cards, gifts and heartfelt messages to their mums, Brooklyn chose to highlight a different maternal figure in his life.
The 27-year-old social media personality posted a photo of himself with wife Nicola Peltz and her mother, Claudia, on Instagram, praising the former fashion model in a belated birthday message.
"Happy birthday to the best mother-in-law," he wrote beside the image. "Love u so much and hope u had the most amazing day."
Claudia celebrated her 71st birthday on March 12, several days before Brooklyn's tribute appeared online, timing that raised eyebrows given it arrived on the same day the UK was celebrating Mother's Day.
Meanwhile, Nicola, 31, also shared affectionate photos from the family celebration, writing a lengthy tribute to her mother and describing herself as "the luckiest ever" to call her mum.
The post stood in contrast to the silence surrounding Victoria, whom Brooklyn did not publicly acknowledge on the day dedicated to mothers in Britain.
Despite the apparent snub, Victoria was still celebrated by the rest of her family. Husband David Beckham posted a heartfelt message praising the former Spice Girls singer for the way she has raised their four children.
Sharing a throwback photograph of Victoria while she was pregnant, the retired football star called her an "inspiration in all the ways a mum should be" and thanked her for the family they had built together.
The tribute came amid an ongoing rift between Brooklyn and his famous parents. Earlier this year, the aspiring chef released a lengthy social media statement accusing them of attempting to control narratives about the family in the press.
He also alleged that his parents had interfered in aspects of his relationship with Nicola, claims that intensified speculation about the fractured dynamic within the Beckham household.
For now, however, Brooklyn's latest message appeared to send a clear signal about which mother figure he chose to celebrate.
